Top 5 Favorite Trader Joe’s Products

Monday, March 30th, 2009

For my weekly grocery shopping I always load up the car with grocery bags and head out to Trader Joe’s. Trader Joe’s has been my favorite spot for groceries because it stocks great food that is both healthy and cost efficient. I have been a loyal shopper there and have amassed some favorites that I get excited for each week. I thought I would share with you my top five favorite items that are on my list every week.

1. Pesto alla Genovese (Basil Pesto)

Pesto

This pesto is something that I like to keep on hand to mix into pasta, spinach and to spread on paninis and pizza.

2. Soy Pita Bread

Soy Pitas

I was always a consumer of whole wheat pita bread, but when my friend Jess introduced me to Trader Joe’s soy pitas I was instantly hooked. With a wopping 7 grams of protein per 1/2 pita serving they are a great health benefit and are also incredibly moist and delicious!

3. Roasted & Unsalted Cashews

Cashews

I like to pack these cashews in my lunch or eat them for a snack. These cashews are the perfect, convenient healthy snack. There is no added salt and they are roasted to add extra flavor. I eat these almost everyday, it’s hard for me to keep a bag around for more than a week.

4. Dried Cranberries

Dried Cranberries

These dried cranberries are by far my favorite addition to oatmeal. They are also really good in scones with a bit of orange zest.

Hummus

The organic hummus is delicious and contains all familiar ingredients with no worry of gross additives like some other hummus’ (hummusi?) out there. Served with sliced soy pita and assorted veggies, this is one of my weekly lunch staples.

Dinner From the Pantry

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Last night I wanted something quick and easy that is also healthy and flavorful. In an effort to save money and effort I decided to pull together a dinner composed mostly of items found in my pantry.

Ingredients

While I cooked a package of Trader Joe’s whole-wheat parpardelle pasta, I sautéed two cloves of garlic in some olive oil. Once that was golden brown I added a bag of spinach and some white wine and seasoned it with salt and pepper and let it wilt. In another pan I browned a handful of pine nuts. Once everything was cooked I tossed the pasta with the spinach and pine nuts. I also found some flavorful capers and artichokes in the refrigerator and added them to the pasta. To finish the pasta off I added a couple spoonfuls of Whole Foods bruschetta topping and stirred.

Pantry Pasta

This is the type of pasta that I love to make and I often like to add or omit ingredients according to what I have in my kitchen.
